After over 5 years of establishing and running my business at buy Design, I have returned home to set up a workshop in the Highlands, where I continue to practice my craft.
I keep a strong link with buy Design and visit regularly and continue the commitment to developing products from Scottish hardwoods, both for the one-off site-specific placement and for batch production.
Since moving I have developed a second range of small products for Borders Forest Trust aimed at utilizing the low to medium grade hardwood thinnings from selected woods under their management. The sale of these demonstrates good use of the raw material and the revenue allows for future development.
I am currently involved at the design and prototyping stage of a project that aims to include the batch production of a range of kitchen furniture and related products produced from Scottish Sycamore, a much under utilized and undervalued material. I am also producing private commissions for new and previous clients from all over Scotland. darren@buydesign-furniture.com
